Equinor Energy AS has exercised options for two additional wells for Odfjell Drilling’s Deepsea Atlantic semisubmersible rig, extending its firm contract into late fourth-quarter 2027. The additional wells will be drilled in direct continuation of the rig’s current contract at rates agreed under the original contract. Equinor retains priced options for a further two wells.
The extension follows a January 2025 agreement that added approximately $148 million to Odfjell Drilling’s contract backlog and extended the rig’s firm term through the second quarter of 2027. Equinor and Odfjell Drilling have worked together on the Deepsea Atlantic since 2009.
The sixth-generation rig is designed for deepwater and harsh-environment operations, with dynamic positioning and a dual-derrick drilling system. It is capable of operating in water depths of up to 3,000 m, according to Odfjell Drilling.
